EMAIL LIBERATION 101: OUTSMARTING SPAM FILTERS WITH EASE

EMAIL MARKETING FREEDOM OR JAIL

Email marketing is easily one of the most effective ways to reach your target audience (and hopefully customers). However, when your emails get caught in spam filters, or email jail as I like to call it, all those efforts have gone out the window.

Now, spam filters are there to assist your potential customers, keeping unwanted (and sometimes harmful) emails out of their inboxes. However, there are times when your perfectly crafted and legitimate emails will get flagged and sent away to the spam folder. And if you haven’t experienced it yet, let me tell you, it can be very frustrating.

SO, to avoid email jail, here are 5 ways to help prevent your emails from being flagged by spam filters.

5 WAYS TO OUTSMART SPAM FILTERS

  1. Avoid spam trigger words. Certain words will alert the spam filter cavalry and land your email in spam. Try to avoid using words such as, “free,” “limited offer,” etc. in subject lines, content, etc.
  1. Create clear, concise subject lines. Clearly communicate the purpose of your email (omitting those pesky spam trigger words, of course) in the subject line.
  1. Use a reputable email service provider. A good service provider will be established and trustworthy with a good track record. Reputable providers will uphold industry standards for email marketing.
  1. Clean up your email list. Stay up to date with your active subscribers and remove any email addresses that have bounced, inactive, etc. Clean lists will improve your reputation and reduce the chances of getting marked spam.
  1. Test, test, test! Give your emails a test run before sending them out to your email list. You can test internally or use a spam check tool to assist you. This way you can identify any potential spam flags and make necessary changes.
